The MAGNUS‡ gradient platform: advancing the field of neuroscience
MAGNUS (Microstructure Anatomy Gradient for Neuroimaging with Ultrafast Scanning), a collaboration between GE HealthCare, GE Global Research Center and USU, is an advanced gradient MR platform designed to improve diffusion imaging at high b-values without significantly increasing peripheral nerve stimulation or incurring SNR loss. The team designed the MAGNUS gradient system for greater efficiency, resulting in higher maximum gradient amplitude while controlling the inductance to achieve high slew rates with rapid EPI switching and shorter TEs for increased SNR and decreased distortion.

An ultra-high-field upgrade advancing the understanding of disease
The University of Iowa MR Research Facility (MRRF) is at the forefront of high-field, neuroscience-focused research. The center’s Discovery™ MR950 ‡, a research-based 7T‡‡ MR system, was recently upgraded to the SIGNA™ 7T, GE HealthCare’s powerful new platform for advancing neurological research and clinical translation.

Development of high-performance gradient systems
This article discusses what MR users want out of their gradient systems and how the technology continues to improve our ability to meet those needs. Read out how some of the key specifications for gradient coils and how these specifications interact and affect an MR system’s ability to deliver the images we want.

7T* MRI scanner: scientific discovery meets clinical translation
Designed to overcome the limitations for many of today’s clinical MR systems, the SIGNA™ 7T is a powerful new platform for advancing neurological research and clinical translation. Approximately five times more powerful than most clinical systems, SIGNA™ 7T is designed to detect subtle structures that may be significant for clinicians and researchers alike.
